Nasim Soltanbeigi, Student Rights and Women’s Rights Activist Begins Serving Six Year Prison Sentence At Evin Prison

Change for Equality: According to the Committee of Human Rights Reporters Nasim Soltanbeigi, student rights activist and former university student from Allameh Tabatabaie University, began serving her six year prison term on the 13th of September. Nasim is a leftist student activist and a women’s rights defender who was sentenced by Branch 15 of the Revolutionary courts to serve a 6 year prison sentence. Three years for acting against national security (in relation to student activism) 1 year for spreading of propaganda against the state (in relation to student activism) and 2 years of a suspended sentence implemented—the suspended sentence was in relation to her participation in the protest in Haft-e Tir Square in demand of equal rights for women, in June 2006.
